Osteoporosis medication after vertebral augmentation linked to 6-fold lower refracture risk

Only one-third of patients received osteoporosis medication after vertebral augmentation. The incidence of new vertebral fractures fell from 0.519 to 0.076 per person-year after starting medical management (incidence rate ratio 6.79, 95% CI 3.37-15.51), a 6-fold decreased risk.

Integrated CT Biomarker Model Boosts COPD Detection in Lung Cancer Screening

Integrated model combining emphysema, Pi10, airway branch count, and clinical data detected undiagnosed COPD with AUC 0.83 (95% CI 0.80-0.86) in 5,014 lung screening participants, up from 0.69 for emphysema alone, reducing confirmatory spirometry referrals from 41% to 34%.

Skeletal muscle density on coronary CTA predicts 10-year mortality and MI in SCOT-HEART trial

Deep-learning body composition analysis of coronary CTA in the SCOT-HEART trial showed lower skeletal muscle attenuation predicted all-cause mortality (HR 1.85, 95% CI 1.30–2.64) and MI (HR 1.58, 95% CI 1.07–2.33). The associations persisted after adjusting for coronary calcium…

FIGO 2023 staging drops MRI‐pathology concordance in endometrial cancer to 76%

Major‐stage agreement between preoperative pelvic MRI and final pathology fell from 86.6% (FIGO 2009) to 76.2% (FIGO 2023), driven by missed minimal myometrial invasion and lymph‐node micrometastases. Molecular data alone reclassified 15% of patients, altering initial management…
