CT characteristics linked to lung cancer histologic subtypes in screening trial
European radiologyyesterday
In 213 NELTON trial lung cancers, pleural attachment on CT associated with adenocarcinoma (odds ratio 6.67, 95% CI 1.20–33.33); larger size (OR 0.92 per mm) and lower/middle lobe location reduced odds. Pattern may aid subtype prediction.
- Adenocarcinomas were smaller (mean 14.6 vs 17.3 mm), slower-growing (volume doubling time OR 5.65), and more often pleural-based or located in the right upper lobe (49.3% vs 31.9%).
- Multivariable model had AUC 0.75, sensitivity 96%, specificity 29%.
