Neonatal MRI count of enlarged perivascular spaces correlates with perinatal asphyxia severity and later sleep quality
World journal of pediatrics : WJP2d ago
In 319 neonates with perinatal asphyxia, MRI count of enlarged perivascular spaces was independently associated with brain injury severity (p=0.0001) and, in severe cases, later sleep disturbance (r=0.3365, p=0.0061).
- 319 neonates with perinatal asphyxia were categorized as mild (n=229) or severe (n=90); clinical, amplitude-integrated EEG, and cranial MRI data were collected.
- Multivariable regression showed EPVS count independently related to severity in all infants (p=0.0001), mild group (p=0.0248), and severe group (p=0.0114).
- In the severe PA group, higher EPVS count correlated with worse long-term sleep quality (r=0.3365, p=0.0061).
