CE-CBBCT Features Differentiate DCIS, DCIS with Microinvasion, and Invasive Cancer

In a retrospective study, contrast-enhanced cone-beam breast CT (CE-CBBCT) features differentiated DCIS from invasive lesions (AUC 0.785 in validation) and DCIS with microinvasion from invasive ductal carcinoma (AUC 0.817). External validation needed.

  • In the training cohort, CE-CBBCT features such as maximum extent perpendicular to the duct and adjacent vessel sign differentiated DCIS from DCIS with microinvasion (DCISM), while degree of enhancement and lesion type differentiated DCISM from DCIS with invasive ductal carcinoma.
  • Models developed from 164 training patients showed AUCs of 0.815 and 0.810, but prospective multicenter validation is required before clinical use.
