Extended Reality Virtual Ruler for PICC Placement Achieves Optimal Tip Positioning in Feasibility Study
Journal of vascular and interventional radiology : JVIRyesterday
In 29 patients, an extended reality (XR) hand ruler achieved optimal PICC tip position in all cases with mean error 0.7 cm. Procedure time and radiation were noninferior to controls. Radiologists gave high ease-of-use ratings (mean Likert 1).
- All 29 XR-guided peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) placements achieved optimal tip position at the cavoatrial junction.
- Procedure time and radiation dose showed no significant difference versus historical controls (p=0.46 and p=0.26, respectively).
- Mean measurement error of the XR ruler was 0.7±0.9 cm; interventional radiologists strongly agreed it was easy to integrate (mean Likert score 1).
