Outpatient ultrasound-guided thyroid nodule cryoablation: 10-patient pilot shows 90% 12-month technical efficacy
Journal of vascular and interventional radiology : JVIRyesterday
In a 10-patient pilot, ultrasound-guided cryoablation for benign thyroid nodules reduced mean volume from 26.1 mL to 10.7 mL at 12 months (p≤0.004), with ≥50% volume reduction in 90% and no moderate or severe adverse events.
- Technical success was 100%, with no moderate or severe adverse events in the 10-patient cohort.
- Technical efficacy, defined as at least 50% volume reduction, was 100% at 6 months and 90% at 12 months; 70% had progressive shrinkage or stabilization, 20% partial regrowth, and 10% complete regrowth.
- Mean nodule volume fell from 26.1±13.9 mL at baseline to 10.7±7.1 mL at 12 months (p≤0.004 at all follow-up time points).
