Hypertension in HCM Confers 32% Higher Mortality, CMR LGE Predicts Death

European journal of preventive cardiologyyesterday

In a 2873-patient HCM CMR registry, concomitant hypertension conferred a 32% higher long-term mortality risk (HR 1.32, CI 1.04–1.69). LGE extent >3 segments and septal LGE independently predicted death in both groups.

  • Multicenter retrospective HCM registry (n=2873, 28% hypertensive) with median 9-year follow-up.
  • Hypertensive patients had greater LGE extent, more multiple and midwall LGE.
  • LGE extent >3 segments (HR≈4.0) and septal LGE (HR≈1.7) independently predicted all-cause mortality regardless of hypertension status.

Retrospective design; external validation of predictive models not performed.
