Second PSMA PET alters management in nearly half of prostate cancer patients after negative first scan

Radiology Businesstoday

Repeat PSMA PET after an initially negative scan detected disease in ~56% of recurrent prostate cancer patients and changed management in nearly 50%, per a new study in JNM.

  • The study analyzed 210 patients from the Ontario PSMA PET Registry who had a negative first scan; the second PET found disease in about 56%.
  • Positive repeat scans were more likely in patients with higher PSA levels and a PSA doubling time under 12 months.

Announcement from a trade outlet; the primary study in The Journal of Nuclear Medicine has not been independently reviewed.
