Over 60% of Young Adults Have Coronary Plaque at Clinically Indicated CCTA with AI Analysis
Radiology AI literature (PubMed)2d ago
In a retrospective multicenter study of 1621 patients aged 18-49 undergoing clinically indicated CCTA with AI plaque analysis, 62.8% had coronary plaque; prevalence rose from 34.7% (18-29y) to 68.8% (40-49y). Plaque burden and FFR-CT abnormalities also increased with age.
- Retrospective, international, 29-center study of 1621 young adults (mean age 42, 44% women) referred for CCTA; AI-CPA quantified plaque.
- Median total plaque volume 36 mm³, higher in men (59 vs 22 mm³, p≤0.0001); 44% had FFR-CT ≤0.80.
- Limitation: Retrospective design in a referred population limits generalizability; AI algorithm not externally validated for this specific cohort.
