Signal-Oscillation Analysis Boosts Myocardial Iron Detection on T2* Mapping
Radiology AI literature (PubMed)5d ago
Signal-oscillation analysis added to T2* mapping improved myocardial iron detection AUC from 0.79 to 0.94 in-vivo (0.78 to 0.99 ex-vivo), reducing fat-related false positives.
- Secondary analysis of a prospective trial (NCT04863677) included 15 ex-vivo and 35 in-vivo hearts (188 ROIs) from MI patients.
- Fat-induced signal-oscillation (χν2) was markedly higher in fat than in iron deposition (ex-vivo: 39±51 vs 0.20±0.12; in-vivo: 10±9.8 vs 0.54±0.55; p<0.001). Specificity, PPV and accuracy all improved significantly (p<0.001; exact figures not reported).
- Single-center, small sample; ex-vivo findings may not fully generalize to in-vivo settings; no external validation cohort.
