AI Boosts Radiographer Detection of Intraventricular and Subdural Hemorrhage on Head CT
Radiology AI literature (PubMed)1w ago
AI assistance significantly improved radiologic technologist detection of intraventricular and subdural hemorrhage (5/30 reader-task comparisons, p≤0.007) but did not improve overall any-hemorrhage AUC in this retrospective 100-CT study.
- Retrospective diagnostic-accuracy study; 5 radiologic technologists (5–12 yrs experience) read 100 non-contrast head CTs (50 positive, 50 negative) with and without AI; two radiologists served as reference standard.
- AUC gains were specific to intraventricular and subdural subtypes; overall any-hemorrhage AUC was not significantly improved (p=0.069–0.967), suggesting AI benefit is subtype-dependent.
- Key limitations: small dataset (n=100, single database), retrospective design, no external validation, and findings may not generalize beyond the tested AI system or RT experience mix.
